Episode 1 - Izanagi and Izanami

In this episode, I discuss the Japanese creation tale of Izanagi and Izanami. Their story began, as many myths and folk tales do, as part of an oral tradition, but was later written down and published in 711 CE in a compendium called The Kojiki. The Kojiki is the oldest surviving written history of Japan. Only a few years later, a more detailed version of the story was featured in the 720 CE publication, the Nihon Shoki.
